Seat Weaving Day Course FAQ

Information for anyone wanting to come on my day course, learning to hand weave cane in the traditional 6 way weave.

The day starts at 10am, I'll give you a quick history of cane furniture and the material we will be weaving with, if you have any cane furniture at home bring a photo!

I have had special frames made by the Local Alston's MENS SHED, which are smaller than a regular seat so that we can finish the panel in one day, and cover every aspect of learning the 6 way weave.

If we were to do a regular chair seat we'd need a couple of days- maybe more, so this way you will complete the weave on the frame and keep it for reference, maybe for that family heir loom that needs recaning at home.

All materials are provided, and I will also give you a full colour instruction booklet to take home, so you can easily jog your memory when you start your next chaircaning project.

DIY Cane Seat Kits can be bought from me with a discount on the day too, if you are eager to start a chair as soon as you go home.

We will have breaks for coffee & biscuits & lunch time and we aim to finish between 4 & 5pm.
I'm quite aware you might not want to stop weaving, so lunch will be a grazing platter to pick from so either fill your plate and have a break or nibble as you go!

Dietary Requirements
All refreshments and your lunch is provided.
Email me after booking with any dietary requirements, Cobbles Cafe  are providing the freshly made lunch and can accomodate for any allergies, gluten free, vegan etc.

Please be aware that because of the age of my building (400 years) that it's not got flat floors, and the stairs to the toilet up on the second floor might be challenging for some- no hand rail either, but the cafe across the road will let anyone on my day course use their ground floor facilites.
There is a regular flight of stairs to the first floor coursework room- with a bannister.

Weaving is very intensive on the hands/fingers so please be aware if you struggle with arthrisis etc, that this craft may not be suitable for you.
